These can be filled with many different fillings. The most popular is a potato cheese filling (mash boiled potatoes and add cheddar or other cheese to taste…I use Velveeta). Other fillings are sweet cabbage, lekvar, apricot, cottage cheese, sauerkraut and many others!)
- The first step is to prepare the dough, which is done by mixing 4 cups of flour, an egg and about 1 cup of water together to make a soft dough, as well as a pinch of salt. Knead dough till smooth and not sticky.
- Roll dough out to about 1/8 inch thick.
- Cut out into circles with a cookie cutter or a drinking glass; you can even cut them into squares depending on what you want for the final shape.
- Place a good spoonful of filling in the center and fold in half being careful to make sure the edges seal well
- Drop gently into boiling water and cook until they float to the top.
- Remove carefully and drain, then add fried butter and onions and serve!
Dobré chut’!
